Bashar Chalabi

Before his involvement with Card Tech, Bashar Chalabi was part of the founding team of MegaKnowledge, which produced the first PC-based rule-based system in 1988.

His knowledge of expert systems originated from his research activities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he developed rule-based solutions for the civil engineering department.

Bashar joined Card Tech, Ltd. in 1989. His initial challenge was to provide card issuance and acquiring capabilities on PC platforms. Under his guidance, Card Tech became a technological pioneer in the card industry, offering the first PC-based authorization system, the first graphical user interface, the first browser-based user interface and the first web service API. At same time, Card Tech widened its product offering to cover peripheral functionalities, such as fraud detection, e-commerce and dispute management.

His current role is to provide the technical vision and architecture for the product development teams. His goal is to enhance Card Tech’s position as one of the world leading providers of solutions to the card industry by keeping abreast of new requirements, new developments, new markets and new technology.

Bashar holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and economics from Boston’s Northeastern University.
